Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton known as reformers of the Womens movement gather in Seneca Falls, NY with others to call for rights to women in matters including voting, property and also education. Their “declaration” would not gain much support initially but be a start to a long road of change for women and their rights.
1963
Best Seller “ The Feminine Mystique” is released and gives women an idea as to why they are unhappy and frustrated. “The problem with no name” is described in the book as the feeling and idea for what is happening to many women and their lack of fulfillment.
1984
Geraldine Ferraro is chosen by presidential candidate Walter Mondale to run as his running mate and vice presidential candidate.
Early 1800’s
The beginning of what became to be known as “Women’s Suffrage Movement”. Ideas of equality along with social changes during this time led to what is considered the start of the movement.
1920
Constitutional Amendment passes in favor of women’s rights. Women are guaranteed the right to vote.
1973
The court proceeding Roe vs. Wade produces a constitutional right for women to have the ultimate say as to having an abortion.
2011
“Slut Walk” takes place in Canada in response to a speech given by a law enforcement officer informing women to not to dress like sluts to avoid rape. Subsequent Slut Walks take place in other major cities in support and protest women’s expression and their desire to dress how they choose without the repercussions of others desires.
