FINAL RESEARCH ESSAY
The United States as we know has been built on immigration. Our society as we know it
is a melting pot due to the abundance of cultures that are immersed amongst us. Everybody
comes to the United States searching for that American dream with a white picket fence, happy
family and a dog. This is where the problems begin within our borders. Currently our
government is dealing with an abundance of issues about immigration that need some rapid
resolutions. We can add to the mix that immigration issues are part of the reasons for our
current economic crisis. With no set guidelines on how to conduct business about immigration,
the states have taken matters into their own hands and are adding fuel to what is already an
extremely sensitive subject. Being a first generation American I fully support immigration
reform and feel strongly against illegal immigration. This essay is going to address some of the
issues currently at hand to give some perspective into the overall immigration crisis.
In 2007, Capitol Hill made an attempt at an immigration overhaul. The bill was an
attempt at bipartisan reform of our current immigration laws. The goal was to provide some type
of amnesty for illegal immigrants. The bill presented a challenge with of our economic crisis
and unemployment rising. How will the average citizen perceive a bill to help make illegal
immigrants citizens which will create more job competition.. The bill was supported by
Republicans and Democrats alike, including the President at that time George Bush. Mitch
McConnell, the Republican Senate minority leader, said after the bill was presented. "What we
got was a bipartisan defeat." Which meant the bill was voted against on the Senate floor.
Capitol Hill is gearing up for this fight again with current polls from US...
