A CRITICAL EVALUATION OF COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OF SMEs IN INDIA – A CASE STUDY OF CCS PRIVATE LIMITED

1. AIM

This dissertation aims to analyse the difference between SMEs and corporate companies within India and hence evaluate the extent of competitive advantage SMEs have. The SME chosen for the analysis is Chennai Care Services Private Limited (referred to as CCS Pvt. Ltd.). This is a company based in the South of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, located in its capital city, Chennai. The company exists in two sectors – facility management and infrastructure development.

The dissertation will examine the company within the infrastructure segment.

2. OBJECTIVES

The following objectives will be undertaken.

* To outline and assess the organisational structure of CCS Pvt. Ltd.

* To evaluate and establish a system to streamline the process of financial borrowings in CCS Pvt. Ltd.

* To investigate various possibilities of business growth of CCS Pvt. Ltd. in long term strategy.

* To make recommendations to the board of directors of CCS Pvt. Ltd., in taking the company forward to a corporate level.

3. BACKGROUND RATIONALE

The purpose of this dissertation is to identify the aspects in which a small medium enterprise is different from that of a corporate company, in India. The company CCS Private Limited is considered for the study.

3.1. GENERAL

The acronym SME stands for small and medium enterprise. The classification of an enterprise is done on the basis of capital amount invested in starting the business/organisation. The following table shows the classification of enterprises in an Indian context.
