The film is documenting the life of troops living and fighting in the Middle East. It illustrates its message in a more raw fashion as to most films where interviews are planned.
The film is intended for older audience who would have an interest in that part of the world as oppose to the younger generation.
I think the film is clear in a way as it focuses on the troops and their everyday life in the middle east but it could also be unclear as to who they were trying to focus on in terms of they spent most of the film interacting with locals there as opposed to the troops.
The message that was displayed throughout the film was to give the audience a personal view of what the troops go through on a day in day out basis.
He advances his thesis by the way he plotted the film in starting it off with the fight then later going into a more personal documentary where he also showed short films of the troops on their day offs(the dancing in their room scene).
In my opinion, I don’t think that the filmmaker was successful conveying his/her message In terms of it was confusing at times being the audience. i.e. the scene where they were in the mountains setting up campground was a bit unnecessary in terms of they are supposed to be fighting or it made the film look scripted in terms of in real life they don’t have time to set up campout at a location they don’t plan on staying permanently.
