Question:

The average grade of the batch 2009-2011, in “Management Information system”- a subject taught in the 3rd trimester in IIM - was 4.98. Due to an increase in intake of students in the year 2010-2012, the professor in charge felt that there would be a significant change in the mean of the grades i.e. he was concerned that the mean score would fall. To verify this he has taken a sample of 60 students from the current batch.

From this data, we have to identify whether the professor has sufficient reason to worry because the grades have reduced than what they were last year. We have used 99% confidence interval.
