Dentistry is a career in healthcare that deals primary with the mouth. Dentists are trained to diagnose, prevent, and treat various problems associated with the teeth and the mouth tissues. It is the job of the dentist to be fully aware of different types of dental problems and be able to recognize those problems by analyzing x-rays radiograph, as well as visual variation between individual mouths. The primary focus of dental care is to teach, preventive techniques to its patients of how to prevent gum disease, tooth loss and many other dental problems that might occur. It is the job of the dentist to closely monitor the mouth using various instruments such as a mouth mirror and to properly suggest treatment depending on the diagnosis.

Writing is compulsory in dentistry; this is solely because of documentation of patient’s records and publications of dental journals. According to Dr Charles Okah, a professor of dentistry at the New York University, dentists are expected to contribute to the dental writing community which helps in the developing of the dental profession. Dentist are expected to write all thought out their dental career, whether it is writing a prescription to a patient or writing an article to be publish in a journal or even simply writing a professional letter to a person of authority. This is also why writing is stress in the dental profession and this is observed in both undergraduate and in dental school.

Infact, according to Dr chales Okah, all dentists go through at least eight years of schooling after high school and earn a degree in general dentistry, this consists of four years of undergraduate work as well as at least four years in dental school.
