Part I (30 points)

1. You are minding your own business just walking slowly and contemplatively down the street that is covered with ancient trees. Deep in thought! A tall handsome young man seemingly from nowhere suddenly appears and approaches you. He says, “I am lost!”

I feel that this is more of an oxymoron in a sense. The handsome young man walking around may not really be lost in reality, but lost in himself. He has lost sight of who he is or has yet to really figure it out, because he is trapped within his own mind and his own preconceptions about what he is supposed to be like. He has self-doubt and is trying to find his “self.”

2. “Oh!” you say.” Where do you want to go?”

The young man does not know where he wants to go because he is stuck in previous dispositions about what the world is supposed to be like.

Krishnamurti believes that human beings try to live up to an image of which is not their self. He believes that we set up a plan for our lives which keeps us from finding our true self. As humans Krishnamurti says that we are limited by our own thought process. We learn good from bad, pain and pleasure and yet fail to truly understand the way of life due to this machine like thought process that we have different parts of our lives. He is stuck in this place where he is stopping himself from knowing where he wants to go.

3. “I don’t know, ” he says, “I look around and everyone is going somewhere! Do people know really know where they are going? Or, what they are doing? Or are they simply pretending? Where is it exactly that we are going towards?

The human condition is something that in my opinion every one is born with. It is the constant need to fulfill goals that we set in life, whether they are religious, financial, or even personal. People constantly search for meaning to life to fill an inner emptiness. People want to succeed in life and use meaning as a way to fulfill a purpose in life.
