The War on Terror

The war on terror is an issue that remains very controversial to our generation today, it was declared by the President of the United States George W. Bush after the attacks on the U.S. on September 11, 2001. The reason it is considered to be controversial is because when you declare a war on terror there is no specific enemy. By declaring a war on terror the United States puts itself in jeopardy because terrorist groups do not exist in a disembodied space or in an international territory therefore the United States continues to have difficulty to target these individuals. No one has the right to determine whether someone is a terrorist or not, there is no way of determining a specific terrorist headquarters or country that supports and stands for terrorism. The United States and all countries against terrorism are all in danger of a terrorist attack because it can happen at anytime without warning. Immigration also provides a danger mainly to the United States because there are continually more and more people immigrating to the United States in search of a better life and better education. All this immigration could easily lead to an attack on the United States by an outside force, mainly a terrorist group.

The campaign against terrorism is an international effort and includes many goals that have been put in place in order to achieve the total extinction of terrorism. These goals include preventing those groups identified as "terrorist" by the United States from carrying out attacks and posing a threat to America and its allies; spreading freedom and liberal democracy, particularly to the Middle East and putting an end to state sponsorship of terrorism. The first goal of the campaign is the overthrow of the Taliban government in Afghanistan which is known to be responsible for supporting terrorist groups Al Qaeda and Hezbollah whose main leader is internationally know Osama Bin Laden.
