Negotiation Strategy

Negotiation takes place in our lives daily. People use negotiations throughout their entire life. Negotiations are used in early morning traffic; during the day people are even negotiating where to eat lunch. Meeting times are negotiable families’ even negotiating television and dinner times. If you think about it we all have several years experience in negotiating, personally and professionally.

State the issue

Just a few months ago I applied for a position with the Methodist Health System. I used the When I filled out the application and submitted my application there was a question that inquired what amount I expect to be paid. I submitted a figure without giving it much thought. I received an email a week later from a recruiter asking me if I was still interested in the position in the medical staff services. The recruiter Mrs. Kirby asked could I come in on that Thursday. I told her no because I did not want to miss any time from my current job. I will if it can be scheduled around my current position. To my surprise, she asked what would be a good time for me to come in to interview. So I told the recruiter I will look at my schedule and I call her back and let her know once I take a look at my schedule. The recruiter Mrs. Kirby said, “ok, no problem.” So I took my time and called the human resource department two days later. The recruiter was excited to hear from me; that really made me feel good. I scheduled an interview with the manager negotiating a time that accommodated my current work schedule. The interview went really well and I know I was a great candidate for the position. My interview was on a Tuesday; I received a phone call from the recruiting late Friday evening and I was offered the position and advised me of the offering pay. I was so excited; I could hardly keep my composure. I asked Mrs. Kirby if she will send me the offer and information on the benefits....
