DESCRIPTION
The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the BASIC concepts, theories and methods of Sociology. It seeks to provide basic knowledge of the sociological approach to the study of social and economic problems and development, while ensuring that students have a clear understanding of the forms of explanation and methodological procedures used in sociology for practical “scientific” analysis. It lays the foundation for the more advanced sociology courses.
FINAL EXAMINATION
The course is assessed by a written examination at the end of the semester. This examination counts for 100% of the total marks. However, students will be given quizzes and other forms of assessment in order to monitor their progress and understanding of the material.
TUTORIALS & LECTURES
Attendance at lectures and tutorials is crucial and will be monitored. It should be noted that students who skip lectures and tutorials generally do not well in this class. In tutorials and lectures, students are expected to participate.
