Implementing an information system can be a challenging task for the health care

organization which is imperative that the organization selects an information system that will

help accomplish the goals of the organization. It is vital that all stakeholders of the

organization are involved in implementing the information system to better understand what

the organization is trying to accomplish by using it, and since information systems are designed

to improve the organization’s tasks, goals, and choosing the right one can be a difficult challenge

for all parties involved. The deciding factor in selecting and acquiring a health care information

system requires a clear and comprehensive process and the individuals involved must use what

is known as the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in order to ensure a successful

outcome. Health care organizations need to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technology

that is offered to provide the best patient care possible. Information systems are designed for the

health care industry to help organizations meet the quality and standards that are set for the

organization to succeed in the health care industry.

The Process of Selecting and Acquiring an Information System

The process of selecting and acquiring an information system starts with figuring out where

the organization needs to start. The first step would be to assign a work team to develop a

process and research the types of information systems that the organization is considering

(Johnson, 2006). While researching the information system it is imperative that all individuals

involved fully understand the system before presenting it to the stakeholders of the organization.

This can involve getting the designers of the system to set up a demonstration to show all aspects

of the system before implementing the system into the organization. After these steps are
