J D Wetherspoons along with all other businesses have a duty of social responsibility. An example of this within J D is the want for healthy food, where people are now looking for healthier food on their menu’s to accommodate them in following healthier lifestyle’s. This issue caused a need for change regarding J D’s food menu to include healthier lighter snacks to ensure customer‘s were satisfied. This then resulted in consultation with a food expert who suggested lighter ingredients and snacks for the menu, introducing lighter, healthier, and quick dishes which have now been implemented. This change has resulted in customer satisfaction, attracting Customer's to their pubs again and again in the future, resulting in customer loyalty.

To deal with the changes that have occurred within J D, Management could adopt the use of Thurley & Wirdenius Managerial Change Strategy which looks at 5 different broad approaches to effecting change. These approaches are, directive strategies, expert strategies, negotiating strategies, educative strategies, and participative strategies. Directive strategies is the approach where the Manager states when and how the change is done with little or no involvement from staff. Expert strategies is when experts from different parts of the company are brought in to deal with the change, again without any involvement from those affected by the change. This strategy is more common though with technological changes such as, new systems. Negotiating strategies is when the Manager negotiates a change and makes compromises. This strategy acknowledges those affected by the change have the right to have a say. Educative strategies is the “sell it” approach and involves changing people’s value & beliefs to get them to support the change.
