Many companies nowadays employ diverse personnel. Allstate recognizes goal setting as a necessary tool for success. The case study provided illustrates the strategy Allstate implements to recruit employees and gain customers with different backgrounds. Allstate’s presents its diversity vision as “a strategy for leveraging differences in order to create a competitive advantage (p215). All State’s diversity strategy focuses on the success of its staff and the full satisfaction of its clientele. In today’s business world, success is associated with organizations that implement diversity in their everyday business. A diversified work environment opens the market worldwide. Having a diverse workforce generates business because it attracts consumers from all ages and nationalities.

Allstate’s Goal-Setting Program

Locke and Latham's research confirms goal settings influence the way performance is measured. Goal clarity, difficulty, and commitment are key elements of their model, as well as feedback and task complexity. Allstate implemented a proposal that includes two very clear goals: internal diversity and external diversity. Each objective is supported by four detailed steps: succession programming, development, measurement, accountability and reward. Each process strengthens the goal Allstate aims to achieve by choosing a diverse workforce, training, coaching, and mentoring them. Ultimately, to ensure leadership acknowledges the importance of good management, Allstate engages in a survey process where leadership solicits feedback from employees to solve and improve future programs (Diversity Index and the QLMS). Allstate’s program matches Locke and Latham and it proofs to be effective. Allstate’s goal are clear, show commitment, and is open for feedback.
