In the book, How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, four sisters are described and their experiences about switching between two different cultures are described. They each have their own individual experiences throughout their lives that make each one of them different from one another. Being born in the Dominican Republic, they are expected by their parents to believe in that culture, but when they move to America they pick up on some American cultures too. This is why all the girls lives confusing lives because they never really figured out what culture they should believe more in, and could never figure out who they truly were.

First, the youngest daughter is Sofia, who is the youngest of the daughters. Being the youngest Sofia had more of an American belief than her other sisters and parents. Therefore, she rebelled more against her parents then her sisters did because as they grew up they seen how they should treat their parents and how to deal with relationships. Sofia was the sister that would rebel and stand up against her father even though her sisters would not. Her father had brought his girls up telling them that they should save sex for after marriage and Sofia went behind his back. One day her father went through her dresser drawers and found a bunch of notes from Otto saying all they had done and all he wanted to do with her sexually. This led to her father getting mad at her and she stood up for herself and eventually went away with Otto leaving her family.

Next, Yolanda is probably talked about most in this book. She is portrayed sexually the most starting with when her cousin wanted her to take her clothes off in the shed to show her

girl parts. She is in many relationships with men that do not end up working out for her. Her first love, Rudy, she thought would be the one for her. As their relationship went on she would not have sex with him which led to him breaking up with her and then she believed that she would never...
