A. Short Description of firm and its products

Marshall, the leading company in paint and varnish industry in Turkey, was founded in İstanbul – Topkapı in 1954 by Uzunyol and Toprakçıoğlu families. Then, in 1967 it was moved to Gebze where was more suitable logistically for expansion.

After becoming the first owner of ISO 9000 quality certificate for a paint and varnish company in Turkey, in 1997, again for the first time in Turkey, a paint and varnish company, Marshall, acquired “üçlü sorumluluk belgesi”

In 1998, Marshall joined one of the giant companies in chemical industry, Akzo Nobel whose HQ was located in the Netherlands.

Besides expanding locally and internationally and strengthening its position in various markets, Marshall has taken important steps with its values, employees, and wisdom to satisfy its customers, suppliers, and society so far and will continue to do so. Marshall also stood out in the market with its environment friendly products and organization plan.

B. Short description of the paint industry and the competitive environment

Paint industry consists of construction paints, industrial paints, thinners, and other paints.

Total paint production worldwide is 33 million tons per year, and the volume of the market reached 80 billion dollars.

Paint industry is expected to grow %5 annually, and it’s expected to reach 40 million tons total worldwide and 100 billion dollars as a market at the end of 2012.

When we look at the area of use, construction paints take the first place with %48 share followed by paints used in automotive and other similar sectors with %38.

American companies takes the first place in the market with a share of %38 percent, followed by Asian-Pacific companies with %36 share and lastly European companies with %26 share.
