The reason a business or an organization like the Health Care Center for the Homeless (HCCN) does a “SWOT” analysis is to see or reassess the reality that their organization faces in, or simply having some ideas about change because of current financial and regulatory environment.

It is apparent that Mr. Burns believes that it is particularly important for healthcare centers like HCCN to be welcoming environments, because one of the major challenges providers face in underserved communities is convincing people to come in for basic care. Additionally, organization does SWOT analysis because they discovered a problem, for example, their planning wasn’t working or rather the way the planning was being implemented wasn’t working.

Consequently questions must be asked once these issues had been identified; it is a logic step to analyze was then needed to see each step completed in best way possible. What changes were necessary to be in parity with HCCH’s original mission and history? These were the questions that Mr. Burns have been asking but still remained unanswered.

First and foremost in any SWOT analysis process, it is imperative that the stakeholders involved know the reason for completing the analysis. A SWOT for HCCH may include the following:

Strengths:

1- HCCH is a non-profit organization

2- HCCH is one of the several federally and state funded healthcare center.

3- HCCH is in the Medicare/Medicaid program, therefore their receivables are guaranteed.

4- Location is in congruence with their mission: serving the homeless , uninsured and underinsured.

5- Operated as a multi-disciplinary health center. HCCH provides a range of health related services, including primary care, pediatric care, dentistry, social, medical and behavioral health, vision care and tuberculosis management.
