Music is highly influential and triggers personal memories or experiences. It also reinforces values or points of views. Music like writing is just another form of communication between societies. It has become so involved in the media, that music reaches so many different people. In the song American Jesus the songwriter created a piece of work with complicated and serious views about American society. It might be seen as a form of entertainment but musicians have used lyrics to send messages and communicate with an audience.

The song American Jesus describes how the” freedom” that American society has been granted over the past 300 hundred years has morally corrupted us. Even though the constitution was based on Christian values, and ethics of Christian people at the time. Our “god” blessed society hasn’t lived to those set expectations as we are one of the most spoiled and corrupt nations in the world. In the beginning of the song e starts off describing how easy Americans have and how prosperous we are but then throws in a twist describing how the American Jesus has become spiritualized in every American Corrupting and destroying our own morality. Jesus is supposedly the savior of humanity but the American Jesus symbolizes another form, the opposite of a savior as all he does is destroy. As for example “He’s the nuclear bombs and the kids with no moms” clearly doesn’t represent the Jesus from the gospel.

In the song American Pie, he tells a story involving how he lost his love for music and therefore losing his faith in god and religion. He goes through his memories and times he shared but dismiss them and says “bye bye to his American Pie”. Which in thus is his faith in god and the love for music, both which symbolize what has meaning in his life. This is clearly stated in the lines “And the three men I admire most The Father Son and Holy Ghost They caught the last train for the coast the day the music died”.
