Prior to fulfilling this assignment, when I previously thought about the phrase, “called and accountable”, I associated it to an elite status of believers who had special connections to God and thus were given extraordinary missions to complete. Those who came to my limited understanding included renowned pastors such as TD Jakes, or prominent evangelist such as Billy Graham. What I did not understand is that at the very moment that we come into the knowledge of God’s unconditional love and His sacrifice for salvation, we all, in essence, become “called” by God, and in turn become accountable to Him. “When Christians sense that God is guiding them…they will deeply, even painfully be aware that having the knowledge of His will brings with it immediately a solemn sense of accountability.” (page 52) God never intended for only an elite group of believers to carry His message to all parts of the world. That assignment is given to all who believe. There should be no distinction between the leaders of the church and those believers who have not officially been given a leadership title. All believers become servants to the will of God. We are all called by God and given specific assignments to complete. There are several lessons and quotes that reach out to me from the book, “Called and Accountable”, but after completing this assignment, the one statement that continues to resonate with me is that “at the moment a person is brought into relationship with God, or come into the knowledge of God, they experience the heart of God, the mind of God, and the eternal purposes of God.” That experience, which typically happens at the moment of salvation, justifies our calling and our accountability to God.

To experience the heart of God, there has to be an overwhelming understanding of the level of love that God has for us. It is often said that...
