Social Resistance to Change

Multiple reasons exist resulting in a resistance to social change in the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest. Some of the main causes to the deforestation in the Rainforest are: cattle pasture, the value of the hardwood, housing and farming space (). In other words, money and housing drive a large part of the deforestation. As a result, the various groups involved will resist any notion to change their methods.

One specific aspect of the farming industry in the Amazon is for soybeans. Brazil is considered to have the second largest industry in the world for production of soybeans ("Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest", n.d.). In addition, Brazilian Legislation communicates that clearing land is an effective use of land and is the first step towards land ownership ("Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest", n.d.). Cleared land is also valued at 5-10 times more than forested land ("Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest", n.d.). Families and business owners will find it extremely difficult to turn this type of money and possibility of ownership down to reduce the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest.

Affected Social Groups Actions

The farming industry in Brazil has increased significantly over the past several years due to the booming industry ("Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest", n.d.).. As a result, highways have now been created cutting through the Rainforest to allow additional farming abilities. The area is now seeing a heavier impact of mechanized farming equipment, allowing the farming industry to expand and cut down more and more trees in an effort to clear more land ("Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest", n.d.). This cleared land has also introduced more residences in an effort to maintain those farms.
