Creation and Consequences of Hispanic Americans

A high percentage of minority groups have settled in and around The United States. One of the groups, if not the largest, is the Hispanic Americans. There is no state in the union in which they are not present in one form or another; however, the majority of them have migrated from all of Latin America to places such as Florida, New York, and Los Angeles, California, (Grieco, 2003). The creation of the Hispanic American minority group included the migrating, annexation, and colonization throughout the states. In addition to creation, many consequences have been endured from expulsion to assimilation.

Hispanics make up the largest minority group in the United States. Although Mexicans are considered the largest of the whole Hispanic population, Central Americans and South Americans compose the majority. At the beginning of this century, the majority of the Hispanics were still concentrated in the Southwest. Nowadays my ancestors have colonized throughout the entire United States. Mexico always has been the largest point of entry for immigration. In the year 2000, of the 17% of the minority population in the United States, 13% were Hispanics. In 2010, the Hispanic population is expected to reach approximately 33% (Schaefer, 2006).

A majority of my ancestors migrated by foot, train, and bus from South America across Central America and Mexico into the United states; migration means; any transfer of population” (Shaefer, 2006, p. 16). In addition, our people also suffered persecution from terrorists that led to expulsion from our land; meaning we were ejected from our lands by force. We entered the United States, learned English, and became a part of the people of the United States; this is called assimilation.
