Personal Ethics Statement

I learned several interesting facts about my Ethical lens Inventory Report from my personal preferred lens, core values, blind spots, strengths, and weaknesses. My personal preferred lens is rights and responsibility and relationship. According to Ethical Lens Inventory (2002-07), "You use your reasoning skills (rationality) to determine both the universal rules that each person should follow (autonomy) and the processes that will assure fairness and justice for all in the community (equality) ” (Your personal preferred lens). This outcome is because of the fact I have been in the Army for 12 years. While serving 12 years I was learned to treat everyone equally and with respect. Also to follow processes and procedures, it was all about structure in the military. I tend to apply that training to every day aspects of life.

My ethical strengths would be Self-Awareness and Justice. According to Ethical Lens Inventory (2002-07), “You know what you need to do and just do it.” Growing up my parents always told me to take responsibility in every action or decision I make. For example, my parents would tell me to think twice before doing anything and always think about the outcome of the decision. Whether the decision I made was right or wrong, I would have to accept the outcome.

Another thing I learned was my Blind spot that was overconfidence in processes. The Ethical Lens Inventory (2002-07), states “Because you believe that a consistent process results in a just outcome for all, you sometimes trust the process too much.” This was developed from my military training as stated before. In the military everything is about structure. I was trained to trust and implement the processes and procedures. I must remember that processes are created by humans and are subject to error and doing it should help me work on my blind spot.
