Abstract

On this assignment I will be answering some questions regarding case 4.4 “A New Business Ethic” as well as elaborating on Sheehy’s points of views and reports on ethics behavior on the work place from current parallel display of work ethics on this society, our past society and the future of American business.

“A New Work Ethic” Reading Questions

1-Describe how typical the attitudes that Sheehy reports appear to be in work environments you have experience?

In my experience the attitudes described by Sheehy are very common in the work place, not only I have founded in young men but also young adults. I think that the motivating factor is that younger people do not think long term career wise, most young adults think about pay day and do not see any further or have any aspirations to do better, perhaps lack of incentives and motivation from the chain of command. In the military I experienced differently since everyone is held to the highest expectations in their profession so perhaps those examples might not apply in this case.

2-Explain the implications of the work ethic Sheehy describes for the future of American business.

The implications I have found relevant are the ones that describe that society is decreasing quality of people with the loss of values, moral and ethics that should be taught to lay the basic foundation as well as to become the structure of young minds. Society losing values, as well as the lack of a good formation is detrimental to the future generation work force. The rate on divorce as well as the lack of religion in school is creating chaos and is a definite attributing factor on the poor education as well as upbringing of today’s kids and the future of America.
