COMPANY BACKGROUND

Jackson Company is a major snack foods and beverage manufacturing corporation formed by a merger between Snack Fo and Jackco Company, a snack foods company and a manufacturer of a wide line carbonated beverage flavors respectively.

Prior to the Merger

Snack Fo was recognized as a leader and innovator in the snack foods business and top management felt the centralized technical function was a major contributor to their leadership position.

On the other hand, Jackco had three divisions namely Bevman, Jackco Domestic, and Jackco International. Bevman was the manufacturing division, and was organized as a cost center. Bevman transferred products it manufactured to Jackco Domestic and Jackco International, which were organized as profit centers and handled the marketing and sales of products. Bevman was handled by a Vice President, who reported to an Executive Vice President of Jackson Company. Jackco Domestic and Jackco International were headed by Presidents who reported to the CEO of Jackson Company. These three divisions covered the beverage business.

After the Merger

Snack Fo became the snack foods division and continued to operate as an independent profit center in which it covers the research and development, manufacturing and marketing function under a President who reported to the CEO of Jackson Company. Such had one large technical facility which centralized all technical functions under a Vice President who reported to the President.

Current Situation

The Jackson Company was reorganized structurally in which had been headed by Dr. Brower, the hired Vice President of Technical Services and an outsourced from a food company. The action plan of his was with the approval and support of the company’s CEO and Vice President of Bevman, Mr. Roberts.
