First of all, as a manager, Bill Houghlan is facing organizational behavior challenges. He has to manage the workforce diversity. Sid is overweight; he has health problems. But companies need to embrace this diversity. It is also a good publicity for a company to employ different people. It might be bad publicity if someone like Sid is suing for discrimination. Also, because the NMO is working in a competitive environment, it needs to develop a positive work environment. Sid is part of this. He used to bring in cookies, go out with his colleagues after work. However, the manager has to deal with the turnover. As new employees are hired, they do not seem to get involved with Sid.

Yet, Sid seems to have a high job satisfaction. He has positive feelings toward his job even if he wishes to change. He is very involved in his job as he is a resource for different departments; his colleagues depend on him quite often. He has also committed to his organization; he wants to evolve in the same company. By inviting him to the conference, the manager is also increasing the perceived organizational support. Sid sees the supervisor as supportive of his application. Moreover, Sid is a highly engaged employee. He has great enthusiasm for his job.

Concerning attitudes, Sid thinks he deserves the promotion (cognitive); if he does not get the promotion, he might dislike his supervisor (affective), or he might lose interest in the company, start calling sick more often, develops a deviant workplace behavior (behavioral).

Only now, Sid seems to have positive core self-evaluation. He sees himself as capable for his new job; he has an ambitious goal, but he is confident. By identifying an opportunity to evolve in his job, by taking action at the conference, he shows he has a proactive personality.
