The foundation of a person’s ethical background or views start in the home. Ethics are “a set of principles of right conduct”( [The American heritage dictionary of the English language],(4th edition), (2000).by Houghton Mifflin Company, retrieved 9/5/10, www.thefreedictionary.com/ethics. Some factors that contribute to ethics are character, religion/moral belief, and trust. All of these factors create a system of thinking that will allow right or wrong decision-making and can be the foundation of ethical thinking. The way a persons parents raise them helps to build their ethical character. Some people take what they were taught at home and use those things to determine their goals in life, how important it is to have morals, what religion to follow, and what aspects of the religion they want to follow. Depending on the impact of a persons parents or guardian had on their life in their younger years a person may follow or they may resist what was taught. Ethics are something that is taught subconsciously, because it’s only natural for a parent to teach there children right from wrong, how to be nice to others, to share, etc. These things are also building the child's character, even chastising a kid for things they have done wrong and the method of discipline plays a key role in building an ethical view. Its natural for adults to guide children and hopefully giving them the proper guidance will result in them becoming better people.

Teachers, parents, neighborhood figures, preachers, all play a role in helping one gain ethical views. The impact that each of these figures and others have on people is what helps individuals to know how to act or react in certain situations. Religious figures are supposed to help individuals figure out what higher power those may elect to believe in, agreeing with what is written in history, what facts show and prove that an individual should believe in a higher power, teachers and parents help with developing an outlook on the world...
