Policy Briefing for Bio Fuel

As the UK government’s research on global warming process at Hadley Centre demonstrates, it is evident that the global temperature has been rising for 20 years since the industrial revolution. Although there is no concrete evidence that the industrialization has caused the global warming, the co-relation between CO2 level and estimated temperature change illustrates that use of fossil fuels, such as gasoline and coal, contributes to the rise in global temperature. With the global consensus to decrease the CO2 emission, as exampled by Kyoto Protocol, bio fuel has increasingly been arisen as the alternative energy source. Although bio fuels are not yet thoroughly researched, there are many potentials and profits in getting energy from bio fuel sources. Moreover, many experts predict that gasoline which now is the main human energy source will be depleted in 50 years. Therefore, I believe U.S. should expand its ethanol bio fuel production to prepare the future and protect the environments.

Most importantly producing ethanol bio fuel is better than fossil fuels in that bio fuels are renewable. Producing ethanol bio fuel basically is a process of turning the solar energy that is produced by photosynthesis reaction into a usable energy form. Although corn has been the most widely used crop to produce bio fuel, other crops such as sugarcane and switch grass are also being researched and started to be used. Therefore, as long as sun is present and we have capacity to grow plants, we could regenerate the energy almost infinitely. Considering that the currently most used energy source, gasoline is likely to be depleted in near future, such renewable energy is needed. The price of gasoline has been rising drastically for few years because of the supply shortage caused by the fear of depletion, but if we use bio fuel we not only do not have to worry about gasoline price but we also do not have to worry about such drastic price rise...
