The psycho-development stage of adolescence is when individuals develop the understanding of who they and others are as individuals. A self realization stage in other words. According to psychoanalyst Erik Erikson, psycho-development can be broken into a series of eight stages.
* Trust vs Mistrust Stage birth-1 ½ years Affected by positive and negative interactions
* Autonomy vs Shame & Doubt 1 ½- 3 years Affected by too little or too much control
* Initiative vs Guilt Stage 3-6 years Affected by consequences of independence
* Industry vs Inferiority Stage 6-12 years Affected by ability to cope in school & socially
* Identity vs Role Confusion Stage Adolescence Tries to determine self
* Intimacy vs Isolation Early Adulthood- 30’s Develops love, sex, & friends (relationships)
* Generativity vs Stagnation Middle Adulthood Starts contribution to family, & society
* Ego Integrity vs Despair Late Adulthood- Death Starts reflecting on one’s life
I started to discover who I was and who I wanted to be in life around the age of 13. I always have been mature for my age, so I started hanging out with the high schoolers around this age. I believed I wanted to be more popular with my peers so I started practicing things they were doing like smoking, drinking, and living as what I thought was “sexy”. I became sexually active that same year. Although I became sexually active at such a young age, I did eventually marry the man who I shared my first experience with and am still married to him. This year will be our 12 year wedding anniversary.
