Different leadership styles would affect group communication in Google in a positive way, in my opinion, because of how diverse the organization current culture. The employees at Google would benefit from an inspirational leadership style because most if not all employees there are all working towards a common goal. Within an organization, having employees who actual believe in the company’s mission statement can send the organization on the right path to success. The only source of power that I found within Google is the Reward Power, within this organization; they offer employees a full range of benefits that you would not ordinary find at most companies. The Reward Power has affected this organization in a positive way; employees strive to reach the next step and moving up within the company is a goal that all employees have in common. If members within the organization were faced to work under the coercive power, there is bound to be a change in the culture of the organization. Employees within the organization would be working out fear instead of goal focused. There are several negative factors that could arise when coercive power is the base of the organization. The most common would be a high turnover rate; most individuals do not display good work ethic if they do not feel a sense of value from the organization.

The motivational theory that would be most effective within Google would be the goal-setting theory. According to the text, goal-setting theory assumes an individual is committed to the goal and is determined not to lower or abandon it. Ensuring that within the organization each department and individuals within the departments have goals that they are striving to achieve would deliver productive work, provided everyone reaches their goals.
