Case Analysis: Thomas Green: Power, Politics, and a Career in Crisis

February 6, 2012

Thomas Green is a 28 year old man who was born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia where he earned a bachelors degree in Economics. After graduating he got his first full-time job in sales at National Business Solutions in Atlanta. Mr. Green was very successful with ATM sales to regional banks in the southeast. In March of 2007, a company, Dynamic Displays recruited him for an account executive position for the Travel and Hospitality Division. Working for Dynamic Displays was a great opportunity for advancement and he accepted the position. Within six months, due to impressive sales, Mr. Green received an incredible promotion, to senior market specialist, that he was not quite qualified for, however they were willing to take a chance on him based on his sales, customer relations, and new perspectives that he could offer. Within the first six months, Mr. Greens’ new position was in jeopardy due to his lack of experience and unwillingness to develop an effective work relationship with his highly experienced manager, Frank Davis. Mr. Green is now wondering how to handle the position he has gotten himself into, and should he begin looking for a new job.

Dynamic Displays provides self service options for banks by means of Automated Teller Machines (ATM). The company was founded in 1990, and by 1994 they broke into the travel and hospitality industry by promoting their first self-service check-in kiosk for Discover Airlines. By 2007, Dynamic Displays’ Travel and Hospitality Division had over 1,500 self service kiosks set up in more than 75 airports. They were a full service provider that offered hardware, software, engineering, and maintenance support.
