Human Service Scenario

The client that I will be interview is a 20 year old Africa American female name Brenda. Brenda is currently eight month pregnant she is addition to the drug cocaine and has been in and out of jail the last five years of her life. Brenda does not have supportive family her mother died when she was 14 years old. Since her mother death Brenda has been in and out foster home until she settled in with Grandmother and stepfather. Brenda now received welfare, food stamps and housing from the state. However, Brenda is about to lose all assistant from the state because of her drug addiction. When Brenda received food stamps instead of buying food for herself and the unborn child she sells them to buy cocaine. With the baby due is less than a month Brenda now realize that she is about to become a mother she wonders if she will be able to take care of herself and a child because of her past and current living situation. Brenda is now seeking help so that she can become drug free and provide a stable home for her new born unlike the one she had after her mother passed away. She has been considering given the baby up for adoption and to seek addition information concerning her options. Brenda would like to get some counselor on herself but she just doesn’t know how to go about it in the right way.

The personal communication style that I would use with Brenda will be face to face communication and speak with her on a personal level. By speaking with her on a personal level it will allow Brenda to speak more openly and will give her the chance to share her deepest secrets. In order for me to establish this type of relation with her I will share some of my pass personal trials and tribulations. I would like to establish a trustworthy relation with her and provide her with encouragement and positive thoughts that will help change her life.
