Why are capabilities and value creation so interconnected with the management of technology and innovation?  Give clear examples and be sure you answer in the context of strategic importance. Also, identify some strategies to turn around a troubled firm. Respond substantively to two other learners.

Capabilities and Values work hand in hand as values are created from the capabilities. There are four strategic capabilities necessary, Leadership, Culture of support for innovation, Structure that fits with the goals, and Necessary Skills (White, Bruton, 2011, p. 312-313). These capabilities will allow the firm to provide a competitive advantage

The issue with capabilities is that most external resources (equipment, goods…) which does not allow for long term advantage. The creation of values which can only be taught and instilled with will provide longevity to the competitive advantage. The use of capabilities that promote and use innovation and modify work with new processes and products in order to gain improvements in effectiveness will build a value driven organization.

An example of this was seen while I worked for IBM in Boulder Colorado. The atmosphere of the business was very conducive to innovation. Regularly leaders would be trained in the most viable methods to increase employee participation, production and satisfaction. Also routinely departments would have meetings where recognition and training was given. Annually there would be days with competitions like track and field and competition sports (volleyball, lawn bowling) that allowed for different departments to interact with each other. Afterwards, while on campus, different teams would be more apt to interact with each other. The capabilities of providing a structure that rewards performance and corroboration lends itself towards innovative values.
