Abstract
Within this paper there will be a comparison of a character from each of the stories. It
will also give you an understanding of whether or not the characters are similar or different. It
will discuss whether or not their motives, actions, or outcomes of the stories are similar or
different within the characters perspectives.
These were two very good stories. I found it somewhat challenging to decide what I was
going to write this paper about. I chose to compare a character from each story. The characters I
will be comparing are Harrison and Sonny. Harrison and Sonny are two very different yet very
similar characters. The common thread that binds them is their longing for freedom. Harrison
was an above average young man who was taken away from his family at age 14. He had an
overwhelming amount of potential that was being suppressed by the government in an attempt to
make everyone equal. You almost forgot about him for a while as you were reading the story.
His family carried on as if it was no big deal he was taken away because his mother was
not the brightest and his father was being controlled by a device in his ear that made it
impossible for him to carry on a consistent train of thought. When Harrison is brought back into
the story he is a larger than life character. He is anything but average. He breaks out from his
prison and goes to a news room to make his statement in life.
He demands attention and recognition. He tears free from his shackles and chains and all
that keeps him down, literally ripping metal from his body. He dares people to stand with him
and be as mighty as he knows he is. Only one woman stands with him. She too has her shackles
torn from her and together they dance. Freer and more beautifully then anything anyone had
seen before. A daring escape and even more...
