1. To me one of the greatest technological challenges that has ethical considerations facing survival of the human race is nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are very dangerous and damaging to the human race. Every country should think more of the ethical of this destructive weapon. You can destroy the whole eco system of the planet with a weapon like this. In 2036 scientists are expecting a Promethesius to hit the planet, but some of these scientists also think we need not to worry because they believed we will destroy the planet before this even happens. There are proximally 6 billion people in the planet, and a nuclear weapon like this can destroy almost 14 billion people. A nuclear weapon is an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission or a combination of fission and fusion. Both reactions release vast quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter; a modern thermonuclear weapon weighing little more than a thousand kilograms can produce an explosion comparable to the detonation of more than a billion kilograms of conventional high explosive. A major challenge in all nuclear weapon designs is to ensure that a significant fraction of the fuel is consumed before the weapon destroys itself. The amount of energy released by fission bombs can range between the equivalents of less than a ton of TNT upwards to around 500,000 tons of TNT. Nuclear weapons have also been opposed by agreements between countries. Many nations have been declared Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones, areas where nuclear weapons production and deployment are prohibited, through the use of treaties. The fact remains that the existence of nuclear weapons as a class of weapons threatens the whole of civilization. This is not the case with respect to any class or classes of conventional weapons. It cannot be consistent with humanity to permit the existence of a weapon which threatens the very survival of humanity. The threat of global...
