37On the last and most important day of the festival Jesus stood up and said in a loud voice, “Whoever is thirsty should come to me, and 38whoever believes in me should drink. As the scripture says, ‘Streams of the life-giving water will pour out from his side’ ’’ 39Jesus said this about the Spirit, which those who believed in him were going to receive. At that time the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not been raised to glory.

1. What is the message?

The first thing a person needs to do is to see his own need. Just like what the gospel said: “Whoever is thirsty should come to me, and whoever believes in me should drink.” The act of drinking simply means that the person will come and should abide the will of Jesus. Thus, Jesus can fill those empty places in our lives. In addition, it also describes the process by which we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit. The more we consciously allow Him to touch our lives, the more we find His peace and presence.

2. What is the value of this to my life?

This Gospel is telling me that whenever we feel thirsty, Jesus is here to quench your thirst with waters of living water. In life when we need help, Jesus is there to support us regardless of what decisions we made. On the other hand, if we don’t have problems to face, we always forget to say thank you to Him or say sorry to the sins that we commit. Honestly speaking, I guess it has been a habit for some of the people including me. Although there are times that I forget Him, I am really trying my best to reach out to God and to make up for the mistakes that I committed.

I think it is not too late since I still have a chance to change my bad habit. I need to take some serious steps to get those rocks, my sins out of my heart. As long as I want to, I can help myself change. It will be a lot easier for me to love others and to love myself as well. Then, everything will fall into place.
