UPS improves customer service by expanding on the information technology system, which is critical to its business performance where it develops the most advanced tracking information system in the industry. It is fast, easy, and reliable for customers to use, on the other hand. Customers can track a package on the Internet without having to use the UPS website; UPS integrates its overnight and ground services, which allows them to reduce the cost, thus creating a lower price for the consumers.

Technology is playing a large role in UPS’s ability by expanding and growing to serve globally in more than 200 countries. Therefore, UPS relies on several technologies to gain a competitive advantage against rival companies. Specifically, the company streamlines processes by utilization of bar- code scanning systems, wireless networks, a mainframe computer, a portable computing device, software products and the internet (UPS, 2011).

UPS is a large company that delivers packages from any sender to a receiver. UPS input system which is called a DIAD (Delivery Information Acquisition Device) accesses one of the wireless networks cell phones rely on. This device can detain a customer’s signature and also other information such as the delivery information which goes back to the UPS’s computer network for processing and storing of data. UPS processes their information by scanning a bar code on the package label which updates the system on where the package is currently and stores this information on a Central network. The output of UPS is of course receiving the package and also being able to check and print labels and receipts online within 60 seconds after receiving the goods (UPS, 2012).
