The SMC Company is an ergonomic office equipment manufacturer. The organization is experiencing increased demand for their products and has created a Human Resource department to handle the staff needed for a strategy of growth. This paper discusses the staffing plan and recruitment strategies needed to hire new employees for the substantial growth of the company.

Company Overview

SMC manufactures ergonomic office equipment, and is located in a small midwestern town in Missouri, which has a population of approximately 30,000. The company’s objective is to produce a wide range of quality ergonomic products and strive to continually improve upon the products they manufacture. Due to the increase of safety consciousness in the work place, the company is experiencing a 100% increase in demand. The owner of SMC created a Human Resource department and hired a HR Director to facilitate and structure new employees to handle producing additional supply.

SMC currently has a racial demographic makeup of 90% white employees. The HR department will look to the demographics of the region, which consists of approximately 40% minority, to fill newly created positions. Since the town is experiencing a low unemployment rate of 2.2%, the company will rely on their HR department for strategies in finding a diverse selection of people to “fit” the new positions. Listed below is the mission statement of SMC, which the HR department will use to aid in basing their decisions.

The SMC Company’s mission is to enhance safety and comfort for the work place through specially designed ergonomic office equipment. The goal of the company is to produce quality ergonomic office equipment, grow profitably, and promote personal employee growth.
