Due to an unexpected increase in enrollment the Miami school district will redraw school boundaries for the upcoming year. A group of experts have been hired to redraw the school boundaries that will be submitted for the next school year. With the new boundaries many students will not be able to remain at their present school. Many parents are upset and have voiced their objections to the proposed plan. Quality of education, increased travel time, crossing economic and cultural boundaries, effects on property values, and social effects on the children are just a few of the reasons parents are voicing their concerns. The following is a plan that will address stakeholders’ concerns. The plan will describe who the stakeholders are, what negotiation strategy will be used to support the school board’s need to redraw the boundaries, and how ethics and culture effect the decision.

Stakeholders

In this particular situation there are several stakeholders. A stakeholder is an individual or an organization that will either gain or lose from the proposed plan. For this plan the stakeholders include certain school children, parents, school teachers, and the school board. For the children who will not be able to stay at their current school there is a gain and a loss. The affects include separation from friends as well as teachers, difficulty adapting to a new environment, difficulty making friends and quality of education. The parents of these children who are not able to stay at their current school will also be affected negatively. The affects include dealing with the issues that may arise with their child from the move and the increased or out of the way travel that may happen due to the new boundaries. Parents work and personal schedules may have to change. The gain for the children is that classroom sizes will be smaller because of the new boundaries.
