Tough Love

There are thousands maybe millions of people that commit crimes every day and get sent to prison. Some of them may have been sentenced to prison for months, while some for years depending on what type of crime was committed. Many of the prisoners have been incarcerated since they were juveniles and have endured the system for many, many years. It’s all they know, and when they get released, many don’t know how to deal with or handle the freedom again, and become repeat offenders. If there were stronger punishments in place I believe that people might think twice about committing a crime to begin with, or at least the second time.

Our jail system guarantees the criminals three meals a day, housing, clothing, free time, and even if the prisoner is interested they get an education. Besides some of the fighting and “clicks” a free place to live with some benefits isn’t all that bad, especially if you know you’re not staying in forever. They also are rewarded for “good behavior” so most of the time they are not even serving the full sentence given to them. Our tax dollars go to help support these criminals so they are taken care of, while millions of homeless and poverty stricken families are struggling every day without the guarantee of meals and shelter, let alone a free pass to college. Some one that is actually sentenced to death row will have a better chance of dying before the date of the execution, because our systems has so many rights to protect the criminals and themselves before the execution can take place. Unfortunately, the victims didn’t get to use the system in their advantage to try to save their lives.

If someone was told that their hand would be cut for stealing, they would be killed for killing, and they might actually have to serve the entire prison sentence, they might think twice before committing the crime.
