Society use of computer technology is constantly being challenge as new software and hardware is made. Individuals are heavily depended on the use of this technology. People use the computer for everything that could advance ones daily life. Today the use of the computer is for banking, purchasing, and ordering whatever an individual may need to function throughout the day. Since, the computer is such a valuable tool some people will use it to destroy another person life by stealing his or her personal information or with a business they will steal important blueprints of new technology and even worse send malice viruses that will shut-down the business operations. Information within this paper will help explain some of the scams used to commit cybercrimes, the identifications of those who may be cyber-criminal, ways in which law enforcements are combating cybercrime, and penalties for committing cybercrimes.

Scams on the computer can come in different forms the most typical scams that computer users should be aware of are those like online fraud, identity theft, work from home, phishing, and the Nigerian scam. One type of fraud that took place on the Internet happen in 2003, the Federal Trade Commission reports that online auction fraud was the dominant scams on the computer. With this type of scam the seller would post an item on the Internet, which he or she is trying to sell. The buyer would purchase the items and never receive it or the item value was unequal to what the buyer paid for it. A newer version of Internet auction fraud that has the number of victims on the rise is the opposite of the seller being the victim, but the buyer becomes the victim. The key to this auction fraud is the buyer send the seller a cashier’s check for over the amount of the purchase price.
