Change Agent

Until recently I was unfamiliar with the term change agent. I have never heard of change agent or heard anyone being referred to as a change agent. I had to do some research to know exactly what a change agent was. After doing my research I am more familiar with what a change agent is and what they do. Change agents are individuals who have knowledge, skills, and tools to help organizations and their communities create radical improvements. “Change agents have the ability to do much unstructured work, to custom design processes to meet the goals of an organization, and are able to inspire people through self confidence balanced by humility and sense of humor.”(Hutton, D, 1994).

An issue that is near and dear to me is keeping the youth of today busy in the community. I think that if our youth has something to do with their time there would be fewer homes broken into, fewer stores robbed, few shootings, fewer carjacking and fewer deaths of our youth. One thing that I have found to be true is that if kids have something interesting to do with their time they get into less trouble and often have a better outlook on life. When kids feel like they are loved and cared for they do better. One thing I would do is provide the youth with activities to keep them busy. One thing would be making it possible for them to take part in recreational sports. A lot of youth do not participate in activities because of funding. A lot of parents cannot afford to pay the registration fees, buy uniforms and equipment needed for the child to participate.

First I would use the facilitative strategy for those in the community because they recognize a problem and the need for change, is open to external assistance and is willing to engage in self-help. In this strategy, the change agent acts as a facilitator, who provides resources, information,
