Short story assignment

Movie chosen: The Kite Runner directed by Marc Forster.

Setting

The setting of the story changes repeatedly throughout the whole story. The location starts at Salt Lake City in the USA, and then goes to Kabul, Afghanistan, Pakistan until it reaches San Francisco - USA once again.

The time is another feature of the movie that varies the most. It starts in a warm sunset in the afternoon. When Amir receives a call, he starts to bring to mind events that happened in the past, and so the story goes back to 26 years before. Then, after narrating the crucial events of the story, the scene jumps to March 1981 and the events continue until they reach the present.

As for the weather, the story begins in a summer day, in which sunny and hot are the characteristics of this climate. However, there are also some scenes in which the weather is rainy and stormy.

When it comes to the mood, the story changes from happy and joyful to gloomy and guilty. Moreover, at the end of the movie, the story leaves the audience with a sense of hope.

Main Characters

The protagonists of the movie are Amir, Hassan and Baba. They are all rounded characters because they show many-sided and complex personalities. For instance, Amir is sensitive and intelligent, but he goes back and forth between acting as a loyal friend and attacking Hassan out of jealousy. Hassan, however, is a loyal friend, selfless, intelligent and committed, while Baba is confident, stubborn, brave and adventurous. All of them have complex personalities.

Amir is a dynamic character because he changes his personality throughout the whole story. For example, Amir as a child tends to be selfish and jealous, while as an adult he is selfless and mature.

Hassan is a static character because he does not change throughout the story. In this way, Hassan as a child tends to be loyal, forgiving and good-natured, and so as an adult he remains the same until he dies in the story. Therefore, Hassan...
