Learning from IDEO

IDEO, world’s best design firm uses a human centred and design based approach to help organizations innovate and grow. It has offered outstanding product design solutions to more than 30 industries from almost all the sectors. The company’s ability to provide solutions for a wide range of needs can be attributed to its successful organizational learning process and systems. The company has following attributes which make it perform its operations efficiently:-

Project teams operate in a very open and collaborative manner. The employees are flexible and receive all the ideas openly. After that serious consideration is done on the demands of the particular project. There is an all-round encouraging, positive energy for learning and knowledge sharing. The selection process of the employees is very intense. For e.g. they have to go through almost 12 interviews before their final selection is made. Wide ranging perspectives and diverse interests of employees is what IDEO the most is interested in.

IDEO, with the help of studio system tends to collaborate and strike a fine balance between the development of expertise and engagement. To encourage collaboration and information sharing between studios new innovations of ideas is done and it’s made sure that they are implemented efficiently. One of the examples is TECH BOX, a box of hottest product components. It serves as an organizational memory and contains archived parts and materials from the completed projects. It is supported by an internal webpage explaining the component and providing a contract for the inventor. The individual employees are motivated to use their skills towards contributing project components.
