One of the most public international political issue’s that has been ongoing is the uprising in Egypt. Divisions among the Egyptians are evident these days as they continue to rally for peace and a better government. This uprising started on January, 25, 2011 when Islamists took part in an 18 day protest against their longtime leader, President Hosni Mubarak. Several hundreds of thousands teamed in Cairo’s Tahrir Square Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of Mubarak’s downfall. With liberals and Islamists still divided, they reflected on their deep political differences over the course of the revolution. Liberal and secular groups marched into the square calling for continued protest and street power against the ruling generals who took over after Mubarak stepped down in February of 2011. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists feel as though the time for protest in Egypt is over and that the revolution has succeeded. Liberals and other revolutionaries on the other hand feel that since the military officials have stepped in they have perpetuated Mubarak’s authority system and have not changed the roots of his dictatorship. They feel as though they have been failed and none of their goals were met. So, the issue is that the Liberals feel like even though their goals were met by getting their former President to step down, they have still been failed by the new leadership because none of the issues has changed.

I think the Egyptians need to restart their economy and eliminate the corrupt leaders in order for their citizens to be satisfied.
