AK Steel Holding Corporation

In the year 1900, a company by the name of American Rolling Mill was created to engage in the production of rolled steel. After nearly 20 years of successful production, the company broke ground at the site of a new manufacturing facility in Middletown, Ohio. This site became the primary headquarters for what is known today as the AK Steel Holding Corporation. The company now operates out of major facilities in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Pennsylvania where they employee nearly 6,900 people. AK Steel, through its subsidiaries, manufactures flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, including coated, cold rolled, and hot rolled products. They also produce specialty electrical and stainless steels that are sold in slab, hot band, sheet, tubular and strip forms. AK Steel is able to offer its customer a diverse product line, unmatched by any other competitor in the market. One of AK Steel’s subsidiaries produces AgION, a revolutionary food contact application, heating and air conditioning equipment (HVAC), medical equipment, laboratory use, as well as home appliance use. AK Steel’s primary customers include automotive manufacturers, industrial machinery, construction markets, food handling manufacturers, chemical processing, pollution control, medical and health equipment, manufacturers of power transmission, distribution transformers, electrical motors, generators and lighting ballasts. One of AK Steel’s most widely known products are the Armco barriers, installed around many auto racing tracks in the United States. AK Steel is considered to be on the leading edge of technology with one of the largest steel research centers in the country. They are a Fortune 500 company with more than $6 billion in sales, and have produced nearly $7 billion in revenues. The company is built on improvement and has built a corporation that will continue to be an industry leader for many years to come.
