Final Assignment

Here is the plan for Acme Manufacturing. The company has six different buildings in six different places and they all have to be connected together. Everybody must be able to communicate with each other so any buildings in the same town should be right next to each other if at all possible. The two buildings in Atlanta would ideally be located right next to each other; if that is not possible, within the same block would be preferable. Those buildings are the headquarters and engineering.

The first connection would be in Atlanta, Georgia. Being they are right beside each other, I am thinking we would start with a LAN style of setup. The hardware I would go with is routers connected by Ethernet cables; they would aid in the speed of the connection. With the up in speed, it will help take some of the financial responsibility of other components of this plan.

Next up is the distribution offices; they are located in Chicago, Phoenix, and New York. Using cable to connect them all together is just not feasible. I am pressing towards a satellite route. Again, China is simply too far away to pay for cable so satellite seems like the best idea. As in my diagram, I believe that everybody should be interconnected because it is one company, after all. It will also make connecting with each other much simpler because they can talk to each other directly. I know that I favor star topology because it just seems to be the one that is the most versatile; but it does seem to be the most logical choice in this case as well. The headquarters will be centralized which makes I/T very happy and less staff to boot.
