Frequent Shopper Program (Part I)

Smith Systems Consulting (SSC) is an organization that offers a wide variety of technology services, including website development and hosting, network design and installation, application development, and many other information technology solutions. SSC has been contracted by Kudler Fine Foods to develop the Frequent Shopper Program. This paper will explain the different system development methods considered to complete the program. The methods are: Waterfall mode of SDLC (System Development Life Cycle), and the Agile Developing Model. In addition, SSC will explain the different testing techniques in place to ensure the high quality of the system being developed.

Waterfall SDLC

This is the simplest software development life cycle model (Freetutes, 2009); in this model, the phases are organized in a linear mode and advances to next portion are possible only after the completion of each prior phase. This will ensure that the developed system will com ply with all the requirements given before the implementation starts. The waterfall SDLC organization is as follows:

Waterfall SDLC (Figure obtained from: www.en.wikipedia.org)

The advantages of this method include the easy to explain to users, and that all the upcoming procedures are predetermined, which helps to set milestones and the project scope. In addition, it helps with error detection, because consequent phases are not started until the last has passed. On the other hand, this SDLC model is characterized for being “too strict”, this is because the design does not start until the whole process of information gathering is complete, which could make projects to last longer. Another disadvantage it is the...
