Motorola’s Six Sigma tool is a way to measure quantity and quality with a goal of near perfect results for any organization or company. It is a business performance format that helps companies and their employees deliver and develop perfect products and services.

The basic philosophies are to work smarter but not harder and reduce errors that employees may make. The Six Sigma methods are “DMAIC which stands for defining the problem, measuring important aspects, analyzing the information flow, and improving and controlling”. In addition, Six Sigma uses numerical and problem solving tools and has a defined role and responsibility for each employee. (Six Sigma)

Toyota’s LEAN concepts basically, are to not waste anything and just produce enough quality vehicles for the customer. The concepts are principle which means just-in-time (JIT) system to make only what is needed when it is needed, and nothing more. Jidoka means “automation with a human touch”. If a defective part is built it is an end result of a product that cannot be sold to customers which means a waste of time and wasted resources. Now Jidoka is put in place which prevents defected parts to be discovered quickly by shutting down the equipment to remove the defected part. (Toyota’s Lean Concept)

According to Villanova University Six Sigma and LEAN can help health care today by reducing costs for inappropriate care, inefficiency, duplicative care and incomplete information also can help by eliminating waste, improving quality and lowering medical errors.
