“Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don't do that by sitting around wondering about yourself (Jone 1).” For over six decades a woman with talent showed the world how sophisticated and strong females could be. Katharine Houghton Hepburn is the only star in classical cinema that embodies contradictions about real nature of women. This left Hepburn with a sort of voice that is unique and demanded. Katherine Hepburn changed the politics of feminism in Hollywood forever.

Hepburn was born in Connecticut on May 12, 1907. She was one of six children of Katharine Martha Houghton and Dr. Thomas Norval Hepburn. Both of whom always encouraged their daughter to speak her mind and always use herself to her full potential. After attending Bryn Mawr college and receiving a degree in history and philosophy, the idea then sparked that she wanted to be an actress.

In 1993 she won her first Oscar in the motion picture Morning Glory. She portrayed a young actress who rejects romance in favor of her career. This simultaneously modeled herself which was also one of Hepburn’s many great talents and attributes. Also, Hepburn played Jo in the film of Little Women in the same year. This broke box-office records and for which she won the best actress award at the Venice Film Festival. This was only the beginning of Hepburn’s everlasting impact on film.

Hepburn left a huge impression on motion picture society. “The only woman to win four Academy Awards- in three different, non-consecutive decades, no less after being nominated twelve times. She appeared in 53 theatrical films and TV movies, and starred in all but three of them (Centennial 2).” She was an outstanding actress that was rewarded greatly for her talent. Hepburn illustrated her strong female attitude through what would effect the public most. Her motives were greatly recognized as well as societies reaction.
