Are the sports programs in our country improving?

Personally, I would like to say yes. Our country has been developing up and coming talents and most of them are gaining glory for the Philippines. They may not be funded well or supported well but they are doing their best to bring home victories and trophies.

Recently, our country has been bringing home medal after medal. These medals are proof of our country’s success in different competitions. It is also a proof that our sports programs are improving and are constantly developing young talents to become stars of the future.

The list of successful Filipino squadrons has been expanding greatly after the past few years. Some of them are well-funded by the government, some are not. Some of them are well-supported by the Filipinos, some are not.

First on the list is the Smart Gilas Basketball Team who recently brought home the fourth place honors in the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Asia Championships that was held in China. The Gilas team has been improving greatly reaching the semifinals of FIBA Asia which is the highest since 1987. This just proves that the Filipinos are slowly regaining their strength in basketball and are on their way to restore their former glory in the Asian scene.

Next is the Philippine Azkals. They have greatly influenced the Filipinos view of “the beautiful game”. Their dashing plays and amazing showmanship has owned not only the respect of our countrymen but also our neighbors in Asia. Not only that, they have greatly improved our standings in the world stage jumping from 195 in the FIFA Rankings to 149 in 2010. And with the rise of stars like Neil Etheridge, Phil and James Younghusband, and Chieffy Caligdong, the future is bright for Philippine Football.
