Introduction

This essay is a study which will evaluate the dynamics of a group in the light of relevant theory concerned with motivation, individual differences, individual learning styles, leadership, communication, power and politics. The group consists of five members which were randomly assigned to form a team for a presentation in class. The members consist of Jane, Robert, Danny, Sharon and Liz. The case demonstrates that all individuals differ significantly from one another in various aspects and these will be analyzed in the light of organizational behaviour.

First of all I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses displayed by each individual and make possible suggestions as to how they could perhaps improve their input into the team. Secondly I will analyze and evaluate whether the team have performed well in the light of relevant theory. Lastly I have been asked to join the team as a late comer and I will therefore suggest how I could possibly affect the dynamics of the group and how I will ensure the success of the group by my contribution.

Strengths and weaknesses of the characters and how their input could be improved

I have discovered that we perceive and process information in various ways according to our perceptual and sensory strengths. This combination of perceiving and processing forms our unique learning styles. "Learning style" refers to how an individual responds to the learning environment (Claxton & Ralston, 1978; Wooldridge, 1995). An instructor's style may influence the activities chosen within the learning environment. Individuals will respond based on their own personal preferences. A mismatch between the learning styles of individuals and their instructor can interfere with learning and raise the discomfort level of individuals.
